Does anyone ever feel like they are constantly thinking about the future? I know I am. Throughout my whole life, I can recall different times where I would think to myself, “wow, I can’t wait until I get to ____”.
I think back to when I was in 5th grade and I attended a middle school basketball game with some friends. I said to them, “man, I can’t wait until I can play in front of these hundreds of fans”.
Then middle school came around and it was the same thing when going to high school games. I can recall being in 8th grade and going to watch Centennial and (now my former college teammate) Rayvonte Rice play their cross-town rival, Central. I vividly remember thinking to myself how amazing it will be to play in front of 1,000 plus fans and have the games on the radio.

Fast forward to high school, I remember thinking how great it will be to be in college and play in front of 15,000 plus fans every game on national television.
I could continue this trend for every stage of my life, on the court and off, but you get the gist. Now, was it bad for me to look forward to these opportunities? Of course not. I think having those goals and opportunities to look forward to are what made me hungrier and gave me the drive to work harder than most people around me. However, I will say that looking back on it, there are so many great memories and opportunities that I had at the time that I wish I would have savored and not taken for granted.
Recently, there has been a lot of buzz around Tom Brady and if he will retire from the game of football. He had a quote when asked about what his plans for the future are. He said,
“We never know what is going to happen in the future. We really don’t. Kobe Bryant, a friend of ours. God rest his soul. We think we’re going to live forever, we’re not. We think we’re going to play forever, we’re not. What can we do? We can enjoy the moments we have”.

How many of us can relate to this? No one knows what will happen in the future. We may have hopes and dreams, but truly we have no clue. What we can do though, is give everything we got and most importantly, be thankful for the situation we are in.
This year has had its up and downs for me. Currently, I am on my third team of the season. That means we have had to move to different apartments, meet new teammates and staffs, fly to a different country, and many more obstacles (I will cover these in future posts). To say that I have been happy and optimistic throughout the whole process would be a lie.
It has been challenging.
However, what I am trying to do day by day is find the positives in every situation.
For example:
- We get to move into multiple apartments
- We get to meet new teammates and staffs
- We get to fly to a different country
When I start changing my perspective on my challenges, I realize that my challenges are what many people would do anything to experience.

I live a blessed life and even when things aren’t going as planned, I know that God is in control of it all. He has a plan for everything! When I am discouraged and confused about something that doesn’t seem right, I have to keep reminding myself to stay the course.
Be thankful for the situation you are in because tomorrow is not promised. Give it all you have and the future will take care of itself.
God Bless.
Michael
